Waifu Coder
A coworker who can read and change files. OpenCode does the coding. The character card is the voice. Front Porch is the chair.
This is not a chat. No Continue. No Regenerate. No story clock.
Desktop only. The phone does not have this seat. Web & Phone.
What has to be running first
- Settings → Backend → OpenCode (Waifu Coder).
- If it is not in the closet yet, tap Download. That installs Front Porch’s own copy. Homebrew is not used.
~/.config/opencodeis not this copy. - The chat backend you already use is the one they talk through. The sit-down card says Backend: and names it. A small local model often skips tools or wrecks edits. A remote coding model works much better — the sit-down screen says so when the backend is local.
- The model must support tool calling. If it does not, Sit down stays grey and the screen says tool calling is unsupported. Pick a tool-fluent backend in Settings. Chatting can still work. This seat cannot.
Check for Updates / Update to v… live on that same Backend row. Up to date means leave it alone.
Sit down
- Home toolbar: Waifu Coder (next to Chats and Porch Stories). On a narrow window the labels drop to icons. It is still the third seat.
- New porch.
- Project — pick the folder they may work in. Confirm it.
- Coworker — pick a library character. That card is the voice, not a second model.
- Sit down.
On that last step:
| Control | What it does |
|---|---|
| Folder jail (safer default) | File and bash paths stay on this project folder. Outside paths are turned away. |
| Whole-disk access | This folder is only the first stop. They can read or change files elsewhere on the disk. |
| Plan / Build / Yolo | Starting mode. Yolo skips the “are you sure?” on writes and commands. The folder jail still holds if you left it on. Wipe and secret hard stops stay awake either way. |
| Honesty checkbox | Required the first time for that scope. Sit down stays grey until you check it. Coming back to a porch that already has honesty on file skips the quiz. You can still switch Jail or Disk. |
Then Sit down.
Empty box: tell them what to build. Their tools stay on this porch unless you picked whole-disk.
After you are in the seat, the right sidebar has a Harness card (🛠️):
- Plan / Build / Yolo and Folder jail / Whole-disk again. Mode cannot change while a turn is running. Scope can.
- Preserve thinking — send prior thought tokens back on the next turn. Off drops them. Long drafts are clipped so they cannot eat the next turn.
- Use library tools — off unless you check it. Same JSON recipe cards as character chat. Takes effect at the next sit-down, not this one. Those cards call the HTTP address written on them. The folder jail does not fence that. Looking things up.
Right-click a porch on the home grid to remove it from the list. That does not delete the folder on disk.
Skills
Waifu-only. Character chat does not read these.
Settings → Porch Life → Web Search and extra tools → the skills note. The path is printed there (skills inside your library folder). One folder per skill, with a SKILL.md inside. Choose SKILL.md copies one in.
Skill permission follows Ask, or Allow when the porch is in Yolo.
