Looking Things Up

Web search, a saved wiki, and extra recipe cards. Three different drawers. None of them are on until you turn them on.

Desktop only for the switches. The phone does not have this card. Web & Phone.

Full click-paths also live in the FAQ.

Settings → Porch Life → the card Web Search and extra tools → Web Search.

Off by default. Turning it on or off applies to every chat, including ones already open. There is no per-chat switch.

What has to be true before a reply can search:

  1. The switch above is on.
  2. The sidebar pill says Tool calling: supported. If it says not supported, or you turned Native tool calling off under Generation, they will not search. Chats still work. They just cannot look anything up.
  3. You sent a message and you are waiting on the first reply to that message.

They look it up and answer as themselves. They are not supposed to recite the page back at you.

No key: search is Wikipedia only (encyclopedia lookups).

Full web (news, weather, prices, anything that is not an encyclopedia article): paste a Tavily API key in the field under that same row, then leave the field. The field stays visible even when the switch is off, so you can paste the key first. A saved key shows Tavily key saved securely.

These stay offline even when the switch is on:

  • Continue
  • Regenerate
  • Guests
  • Group follow-ups (only the first reply to your message can search)
  • Dynamic Responses / /afk

Wiki

A wiki is this character’s book. Not Google. Not the open web.

The app’s own words: Looks up this wiki only (MediaWiki / Fandom). Not Google.

Save one

  1. Settings → Porch Life → Web Search and extra tools.
  2. Wiki URL. Paste a page like https://bleach.fandom.com/.
  3. Save wiki.
  4. It lands under Saved wikis. The × removes that host.

You can save as many as you want. Saving a wiki does not require Web Search to be on. They are separate.

Pick one for this chat

Open the chat. Toggle Sidebar. A Wiki card appears only after at least one wiki is saved. If you have never saved one, the card is hidden — that is not a bug.

The card lists:

  • None (off for this chat)
  • One row per saved host

Pick the host. The card subtitle shows that host, or off.

A one-on-one chat remembers the pick for that character. The next new chat with them starts on the same wiki. A group chat does not guess — the pick stays on that chat only. A fork keeps the parent’s pick, including an explicit None.

Same window as web search: only the first reply to a message you send can open the wiki. Continue, Regenerate, guests, group follow-ups, and Dynamic Responses stay offline.

Recipe cards

Extra tools are JSON files. Not programs. Not a Docker server.

On the same Porch Life card, the folder note prints the real path (next to chats and worlds inside your library folder). Choose files copies .json cards into that folder. Anything that is not JSON is skipped. A broken or disabled card is skipped.

Each card is a name, a short description, and an HTTP address. Character chat can call that address. The folder jail in Waifu Coder does not fence those calls — the card still hits whatever URL is written on it.

Waifu Coder does not use this folder unless you check Use library tools on that porch. That checkbox takes effect at the next sit-down, not the one you are already in.
